Have you ever wished there was a SLP summer camp? We could all get together and share fun stories about things that happened over the school year. (We could also complain together about the bad things that happened.) More importantly, we would have the opportunity to share advice with each other, get ideas from each other, and just relax together.
SLP Summer Camp Time
While I know it’s not possible to do this in person, I have decided to create a five-week SLP Summer Camp Challenge this summer. It’s simple and doesn’t take up a lot of your time. Still, it might be a great way to prepare for next year – not only your materials and yearly plan, but prepare your mind for the year ahead.
How It Works
This SLP Summer Camp Challenge will be done through email and Facebook groups. In other words, you can enjoy every aspect of this camp from the comfort of your home.
We will include activities that center on refocusing on what happened last year (the negatives and the positives), how you can use those to prepare for next year, as well as how to relax over the summer and rejuvenate yourself.
Above all, the space will provide a great, fun place to collaborate with other SLPs and just chat.
We will plan weekly Facebook Lives. Of course, you do not have to watch them when they’re going live; you have the opportunity to watch them at your leisure.
You will find free printouts that you can download to get ready for next year as well as to help you relax over the summer. There’ll be some challenging questions that may help as you reflect on and answer them.
You will also receive therapy plans from the SpeechTherapyPlans.com membership!
Why Join The Camp
None of the challenges throughout the weeks are mandatory, but I believe they will benefit you as you think about the past school year and look ahead to the next one. I believe it was Thomas Paine who wrote that if we are wise, we will “smile in trouble, gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection.”
My hopes for this SLP Summer Camp Challenge is to provide ways to reflect personally, to strengthen and encourage each other, and to grow in anticipation of the future.
I would love for you to join us in the SLP Summer Camp! The camp will be for five weeks this summer and will only take about 10-15 minutes of your time each week. Again, every activity offers optional participation, so if you don’t have time to do it during the weeks (for instance, if you’ve gone with your family on vacation), you can always come back and catch up. If nothing else, you’ll have the information on hand for next year.
I can’t wait to see you join us. We might not be roasting marshmallows around a campfire, but we can exchange a few stories and create a summer to remember.
